Friday, January 27, 2012

The Mountain Home Tiger wrestling team came home from the Parma Wrestling Tournament Saturday with a second-place trophy.

Vale, Ore., won the tourney with 147 points. Mountain Home was right behind with 142, Weiser was third with 139.5. There were 16 teams competing in the two-day competition.

Mountain Home had seven wrestlers place at the event.

Aerial Groene won the 106-pound weight class.

Tanner Sessions at 132 pounds, Ryan Goldsby at 152 and Austin Clark at 160 all placed third.

Fourth-place efforts went to Nick Cruz at 138, Jeff Checketts at 182 and Jon Ryan at 195.

Tiger wrestling coach Lynn Knudson was pleased with the efforts at the tourney.

"It was a very big improvement over two weekends ago over at Buhl, so I'm real happy with the way the kids performed. That's what we've been talking about -- getting better each week, and it definitely showed at the Parma tournament.

"I'm really happy with the way everyone wrestled. We took 15 kids over there, and ended up placing seven of them, so I'm real happy with that."

The Tigers go to Kuna tonight (Wednesday) for a conference dual, and go to a tournament at Minico High School this Friday and Saturday.
