Motorcyclist injured in semi collision

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

A motorcyclist was flown by air ambulance to a Boise hospital Wednesday morning after his motorcycle collided with an 18-wheeler just east of Glenns Ferry.

The injured man's name was not immediately released, pending notification of his family.

Through a translator, driver David Chavez from Meridian said he was moving his truck between lanes on the eastbound side of the interstate when he spotted the motorcycle in his sideview mirror. Chavez tried to move over but was unable to avoid the collision.

Omar Elquezabal of Nyssa, Ore., was a passenger in the truck at the time of the collision. He indicated that he was asleep in the truck's sleeper compartment and didn't witness the actual chain of events.

The accident remains under investigation by local law enforcement officials.

  • To correct the sequence of events as told by the motorcyclist, my husband, Mr. Chavez was traveling in the eastbound right lane when he suddenly decided to slam on his breaks to turn left into the Emergency Vehicle Only turn around (as seen in the photo). The motorcyclist, my husband, was traveling eastbound in the left lane.

Hope your husband is ok... I am on 84 between Mtn. Home and Boise twice every weekday and I can't count the number of times I have been cut off by a semi.. they turn on their blinker and just start moving over. Its almost as if they think their size justifies them to have the right of way at any time.. Good luck with all the insurance crap you have to deal with next.. again hope your husband is ok.
