Tigers exit District with loss to Knights

Friday, October 21, 2011

The Mountain Home Tigers and Bishop Kelly Knights battled to 1-0 contests during the regular season with Mountain Home winning both of them. It seemed only fitting that the third time they met, the game would end in a 1-0 decision.

But this time it was Bishop Kelly earning that one goal as they thwarted the Tigers during the district finals.

"It was a hard one," said Tiger boys soccer coach Jay Lockett regarding the loss. "We controlled the game but couldn't finish."

Tomas Guillen had 12 saves for Mountain Home as goal keeper.

Looking back on the season, Coach Lockett thought his guys made tremendous progress.

"I'm really excited about this season," he said. "I think coming into the season we were predicted to finish eighth place because we lost so many seniors last year. We finished sixth overall in district, so that's higher than we thought."

Mountain Home loses eight seniors this year, but just two of them were starters, so Lockett is optimistic about next year.

"It was a rebuilding year this year, but we competed with everybody, and didn't lose by much to anybody," he said. "We just need a little more experience, a little more fire, and we'll be great (next season)."
