WECRD turns down youth center funding request

Thursday, October 6, 2011

A last-minute appeal for financial support met with disapproval Sept. 28 as the Western Elmore County Recreation District voted against a request to fund the city's youth center.

Last week's decision came two days before the Mountain Home Youth Center's annual budget ran out, raising questions about how long the facility will remain open.

  • If the WECRD cant help keep a youth center open, why do we have this organization anyway? Maybe I read the article wrong, but what has the WECRD done for the city of Mountain Home in lets say, the last 5-10 years????????

They spend a big chunk of the money on themselves, surveys ( always another one cause they don't feel they are worth the thousands that have been spend), and the YMCA to support them.

I will give them credit for finally giving some money to Lets Play, local sports. This has been nothing but money pit taxing district for over 10 years.

  • I think it is the first smart thing this group has done---NOT giving money to the youth center group.

The person who runs the youth center took money from the city to run a youth center and then turned around...on the city's dime...and allowed other groups to use the facility. Then this same person lied to the WECRD Board and the MHCC and told them the groups were all non-profit. It was not truthful or factual. Using city funds to support anything other than that youth center is fraud.

For the first time I have to say---GREAT job Marsha, Mollie and Jana. I am glad you could see through all of the bull. If the youth center would have been on the ball, they would have had this all figured out. Perhaps all of the 500 kids serviced by this youth center could offer up a bit-o-money and keep the doors open. Perhaps we could rely less on the taxpayers and look towards the people who use these services to PAY for these services. WHAT A CONCEPT!!!
