AFAD's burrito breakfast appreciated by parade-goers

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Dear editor:

The volunteers for the free burrito breakfast at the AFAD parade enjoyed another September morning serving hungry parade-goers.

It all started nine years ago when Jovial Jerry's award-winning float builders greeted the Army Band from Gowen Field and discovered that the soldiers were sent to the parade without breakfast while the brass were filling up at War Memorial Hall.

This year, the 250 free burritos served were sponsored by Nancy Reynolds of Adrian's Club, Loren Hatch of Sunset Bar, Jex Hepworth of Featherville Resort, Dale Nelson of Ace Glass, Pat Christensen of Cyndie's Featherville Cafe, Gary Padgett, Ginger de la Motte and Robert and Judy Lemieux.

The burrito cooks were Chris Martin, Fela Rivera, Dick Eaglesly and Jack Cudahy and served by Julie Brun and Ed and Laurie (nee de la Motte) Howell.

Thank you all, and we hope to see everyone again next year.
