Mountain Home High School will start preparations this weekend for this year's fall homecoming.

The weeklong celebration culminates the evening of Sept. 23 as the Mountain Home Tigers take on the Nampa Bulldogs at Tiger Field.

Events planned this year center on the high school's homecoming theme, "Taking over the world one country at a time."

The festivities actually begin Saturday morning when each class decorates their respective hallways beginning at 8 a.m. Classes are expected to deck out their own areas with posters, trinkets and baubles related to the homecoming theme.

This also marks the second year that freshmen will join the hallway decorating competition following their move to the high school in 2009.

Athletic competitions will highlight the homecoming competitive spirit with a macho man volleyball match scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday followed by a powder puff football game at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Admission to either game is $2 per person or a donation of two canned goods.

Meanwhile, the school plans to announce the candidates for this year's royal court early in the homecoming week.

Starting Monday, students have opportunities to demonstrate their Tiger pride by participating in daily theme events. It begins with "opposite day" that morning, which includes a karaoke competition during the students' regularly scheduled lunch break.

A "fashion disaster" day follows on Tuesday with a freeze tag contest planned during the lunch period.

On Wednesday, high school students can be a part of the

"imitate a teacher" observance, which includes a lunchtime ice cream eating contest. In addition, the school starts selling its homecoming T-shirts that day. Each class created their own unique designs for their respective shirts, all of which focus on the homecoming theme.

The school then plans to host a "little kid day" theme on Thursday, which includes a water gun fight over the lunch period. Starting at 3 p.m. that day, students will start decorating Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in preparation for Friday's pep rally and dance.

Homecoming week moves into full gear Friday during this year's Tiger Day. It includes a "car bash" fundraiser as a lead-in to the afternoon's homecoming assembly and parade through Mountain Home. A tailgate party follows from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the high school parking lot.

The Mountain Home Tigers then put their pride on the line as they take on the Nampa Bulldogs at 7 p.m. that evening. School officials will crown this year's homecoming king and queen during halftime.

Homecoming week winds down during the fall homecoming dance, which runs from 8:30 p.m. Friday and continues until 1 a.m. the following morning in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium. Dance tickets are $10 for students with activity cards and $12 for non-card holders. Those wearing their homecoming week T-shirts get into the dance free, but they must present their student body card at the door.
