Letter to the Editor

City crews go the extra mile, resident greatly appreciate it

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Dear editor:

I need to write this letter to thank some really good city personnel.

My backyard fence borders one of the small city "parks." A couple months ago, I noticed that my back fence had come loose, so I called the Parks and Recreation Department thinking maybe they had bumped it while mowing.

A little while later, two guys showed up and not only fixed my fence, but they replaced a bunch of other screws that were working loose on their own.

When I asked one of the guys how to adjust sprinkler heads, he took a few minutes out and gave me pointers and tips right over my fence, and all this with nothing but smiles and handshakes.

Then just last week, I called the city about a street light that had been lighting up the back of my house since we've lived here. The light is in an area where there are only undeveloped lots.

A little while later, I got a call back from Mr. (Rick) Harvel, the streets superintendent in the public works department, and the next morning he had a crew with a bucket truck out there adjusting the street light head. Problem solved, and nothing but friendliness and a really good "no problem, glad to help!" attitude, just like the parks and rec guys.

Thanks Mountain Home!
