School safety initiative takes another step ahead

Following a pair of studies in recent months, an initiative designed to improve safety along local school routes took another step forward during a workshop last week.

A team of concerned citizens, police officers and school officials met at the city library to identify problems and solutions specifically around East Elementary and Hacker Middle schools.

The day-long Safe Routes to School conference follows public meetings held in May and June to make it easier and safer for children to get to and from both schools.
