An AFAD first: Assistant coach pops the question

Wednesday, September 14, 2011
Abel Castro got the Tiger football team to drop to a knee and help him propose.

She really didn't want to go to AFAD Saturday.

Her boyfriend had told her he had to work so it just wouldn't be as enjoyable. But her family insisted, pointing out she needed to do it to support her brother, who was on the football team float in the parade.

Rachel McKenzie, 21, was glad she went.

After the shock wore off, Rachel McKenzie said, "yes."

As the Mountain Home High School football team float approached the reviewing stand at Carl Miller Park, it suddenly stopped in front of her. The entire team dropped down to one knee and her boyfriend, equipment manager and assistant coach Abel Castro, 23, stood up with a large sign that read: "Will you marry me?"
