Cross-county squad struggles during Caldwell invitational

With nine 5A teams in the competition, Mountain Home found the going tough at last Thursday night's Caldwell Twilight Invitational cross country meet.

The Mountain Home girls came in 11th, while the boys were 16th.

"There were 800 runners there," said Mountain Home Tiger cross country coach Doug Root. "Among the 4A teams that were there, Bishop Kelly was ahead of us in the girls and Kuna was ahead of us by three points, but if you take the average time, our girls were ahead of Kuna's girls, so we're right there with them, maybe a little ahead of them."

Keesha Janis-Gibson led the Mountain Home girls runners, coming in 36th with a time of 21:34.72. Sarah Richins came in 49th (21:54,88), Arisha Karren was 59th (22:19.61), Kacee Cameron 61st (22:23.27), Shelby Henrick 72nd (23:04.58), Aerial Groene 85th (23:55.73) and Shalonda Reed 95th (24:59.29).

"The boys ran well," said Coach Root. "We had a kid (Mike Price) that ran a 17:14, so he's getting right down there. He finished 24th. You had the horses there. Two of those teams are some of the top five teams in the Northwest, and the 5As in cross country in Idaho are really a powerful group of teams."

Mike Price led the Tiger boys with his time of 17:14.66, good for 24th. Taylor Croft finished 81st in a time of 18:50.09. Payton Cline was 97th (19:25.85), Steven Kreyche 99th (19:38.00), Andy Croft 103rd (19:43.23) and Daniel Courtright was 107th (20:23.97).

Rachel Goodman led the Mountain Home JV girls, finishing 96th with a time of 26:31.81. Alicia Reynolds came in 107th (26:57.22), Aundrea Dickinson was 123rd (27:20.07) and Erica Cook was 200th (31:29.66).

Tyler Knauth led the Tiger JV boys, finishing 147th with a time of 21:33.59. Nolan Pasqualetti was 186th (22:08.28), Cody Ashby 281st (24:08.95), Bill King 282nd (22:10.21) and Andrew Turner finished 290th (24:45.48).

The Tigers will run at the Wood River Invitational on Thursday.

"We'll see Twin Falls and Jerome for the first time this year," said Coach Root. "They'll be our running buddies for the rest of the season, and they're also our competition for the rest of the season (and) the 6,500 feet of elevation up there is only going to make us stronger."
