Vehicle debris suspected in range fire

A wheel bearing thrown from a passing car was the likely cause of a range fire that burned nearly 1,200 acres of land along Highway 51 last week.

The fire started east of the intersection of Bypass and Airbase roads west of town with dry vegetation and 20 mile per hour wind gusts fueling the blaze, said Mallory Eils, a spokesperson with the Bureau of Land Management.
