The Mountain Home girls soccer team won one of three games in last week's opening week of soccer play.

Mountain Home 5

Columbia 3

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers opened their girls soccer season with a 5-3 conference win over Columbia last Monday.

Mady Vines and Hannah Mode both scored two goals for Mountain Home, while Teresa Fredell had one. Abree Duncan had three saves on goal for the Lady Tigers.

Girls soccer coach Stephen Speak was happy to open with a win during last week's conference action.

"It was a well-worked game. The girls have put a lot of work in the pre-season and it really showed when it counted. It was obviously very hot today, and towards the end, we were maybe starting to wilt a little bit, but the team spirit came through, and we were very thankful for the copious amounts of ice that we got from the junior high that kept us cool."

Coach Speak thinks his girls have the talent to have a successful season -- if they can stay healthy.

"If we can keep this squad of girls fit, we've got every chance of going a long way this year. That's going to be the key. It's not the biggest squad we've ever had, but they play well as a team and they play for each other, so if we can just keep them all fit, and keep them happy, then we've got every chance."

Nampa 4

Mountain Home 0

The Lady Tigers could not get any balls in the net last Wednesday at Eastside Parks as they dropped a 4-0 contest to Nampa.

"I think we were a little bit complacent at the beginning, but we showed some real Tiger spirit towards the end," said Coach Speak. "I've just got to get the girls revved up to play from the beginning like we played at the end, and that's a credit to them that they seemed to play harder the further we got behind."

Caldwell 2

Mountain Home 0

The Lady Tigers battled Caldwell tough Saturday at Caldwell, but were unable to get any scores in the net, as they lost to the Lady Cougars 2-0.

Abree Duncan had seven saves on goal for Mountain Home.

Mountain Home took a 1-2 conference and season record to Skyview Monday to face the Lady Hawks. They are home against Bishop Kelly today, Aug. 31.
