Phyllis Hale

Phyllis Anita Hardin Hale, 87, of Mountain Home, entered into rest on Monday, Aug.8, 2011, at a local care center with her family by her side. A viewing was held on Thursday, Aug. 11, from at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 12, at Rost Funeral Home. Burial followed at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home.

Phyllis was born Jan. 9, 1924, to Clarence A. Hardin and Georgia "Gig" Norris Hardin in Jacksonville, Fla. Phyllis and her family moved to Macon, Ga., in 1937. She attended an all girl's school. After finishing school in 1941, mom started working at the base exchange at Cochran Field, Jeffersonville, Ga. There she met and fell in love with her one and only "sweetheart," Gordon Hale. Gordon was in the Army Air Corps. They were united in marriage on June 3, 1942, in Jeffersonville, Ga. That began mom's life as a military career wife. They had many tours of duty, taking her to Japan, California, Idaho, France, Wyoming, Nevada and then back to Mountain Home, Idaho, in 1970, where dad retired and mom began her career in civil service at Mountain Home Air Force Base. Mom worked at the mess hall, commissary, and in 1977 she worked at the MHAFB hospital in the records room as a file clerk. Everyone loved her and called her "Mom." She retired in 1986 after working 17 years as a civil service employee.

Phyllis loved canning fruits and vegetables that were grown in her garden. Mom was very crafty at sewing and crocheting.

One of her greatest pleasures was taking her grandkids camping and fishing. Mom and dad enjoyed zipping off to Las Vegas and Jackpot. She was a fantastic party organizer and prepared the best meals for all of the family gatherings. You never left mom's house hungry.

Phyllis was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great-grandmother. We are all going to miss her dearly.

Phyllis is survived by her two brothers, Sonny Hardin of Alexandria, Va., and Ronnie Hardin of Milledgeville, Ga., her children, Charles Hale of Emmett, Idaho; Jack Hale of Las Vegas, Nev., Chris Barajas, Paulette and her husband, Richard Fisher, and Melanie Adamson, all of Mountain Home, 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and daughter, Jann Anderson, and great grandson Tucker Prow.
