Raul Reyes

Raul Reyes, 61, of Boise went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 16, 2011.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.

Raul was born to Juan and Francisca Reyes on Aug. 11, 1949, in Weslaco, Texas. He grew up as a migrant worker traveling annually with his family from Weslaco to Emmett, Idaho, eventually settling in Emmett.

In 1966, Raul joined the United States Marine Corps and served two tours in the Vietnam War before being honorably discharged in 1973.

In 1977, he met and married Crystal Schroeder and started a family of three daughters and a son.

Raul worked in security at Hewlett-Packard for nine years and then he worked for over 20 years in law enforcement, working as a police officer for the City of Emmett, Gem County, and Elmore County. He retired as captain on the Elmore County Sheriff's Department in 2009.

Raul was very active in his church, community and family. He loved being outdoors and hiking the high country.

His family will remember him as a loving husband, father and grandfather, but everyone will remember his wisdom, sly wit and sarcastic sense of humor.

Raul is survived by his wife, Crystal Reyes of Boise, his children: Sunshine Reyes (Paris) of Las Vegas, Nev., Desiree Kohl (Paul) of Nampa, Christian Ruel Reyes (Leidy) of Conroe, Texas, eight granddaughters, four grandsons, his five sisters, four brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.

Raul was preceded in death by his mother, Francisca Reyes, father Juan Reyes Sr., sister Francisca Pena, and his daughter, Penelope Reyes.

He will be greatly missed.
