It's a go: Commissioners approve Mayfield Townsite

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Following five months of debate that involved the testimony of dozens of people, it took less than 10 minutes to wrap up the final votes. In the end, the Elmore County Board of Commissioners approved a plan that could ultimately reshape the county's future.

On a split vote, the commissioners approved the largest urban construction project in the county's history. With a scheduled development timeline expected to take 50 years to complete, the Mayfield Townsite Planned Community would eventually add another 37,000 people to the county.

Last week's vote follows a series of hearings that started in January, including four days of hearings before the three-person board.
