4-H Despooking clinic

Thursday, June 16, 2011

4-H'ers came out with horses and coats for the first ever de-spooking clinic on Wed night at the Optimust Arena. It was a case of tents and flags and bears, oh my. The wind just came to remind us that, if you do not ride in the wind you are not in Idaho. Horses were introduced to objects and situations that they may encounter on either a trail ride or even in a different arena. Letting them look at blowing flags and pool noodles (yes that right pool noodles) slapping in the wind was a learning lesson for all who entered. Some did not like the flags while others did not like the plain wooden bridge they were asked to cross, and some even spooked at the bear (he was stuffed after all). Horses and 4-H'ers came through it without injury and was a fun time had by all.
