Elizabeth "Betty" Hastings

Elizabeth "Betty" Hastings, 91, of Mountain Home, passed away peacefully at her home, on Monday May 30, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 6, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Betty was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Moulton, Minn. She was the third child born to Minnie and John Veldhuizen. She grew up on the family farm in Minnesota with her six siblings.

After leaving the family farm, she worked in a garment factory for 20 years before moving to California in the early 1960s, where she met and married her late husband, Fred Eugene Hastings, on Aug. 8, 1964. They made their home in Sacramento, Calif., where she worked as a homemaker.

She had one daughter, Viola "Oley" Wierschem.

Betty was blessed with one daughter Viola "Oley" Wierschem born Sept. 25, 1938.

Betty was a member of the Orangevale Grandmothers Club in California.

In 1995, she moved to Mountain Home to live near her family where she resided until her passing. She seldom complained and often placed the needs of others before her own.

In early years she enjoyed badmitten games in the back yard on the family farm. She enjoyed dancing, and crocheting. Betty had a green thumb and everywhere that she lived throughout life the garden always had an abundance of healthy shrubs, ferns and flowers. She loved gardening.

Betty's greatest joy came from her daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Most everyone who knew her knew she was a proud mother of Oley, grandmother of five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren!

Betty is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Renee Forbis of Mountain Home; Troy Palmer and his wife, Kathy, of Orem, Utah; Greg Wierschem and his wife, Julie, of Pleasant Grove, Utah; Todd Wierschem and his wife, Stephanie, of Kuna, Idaho; and Brandie Seamons and her husband, Clint, of Boise, Idaho, and great-grandchildren Jeffery Fobis, Raymond Palmer and his wife, Jessica, Kylee Palmer, Ashley Wierschem, Haley Wierschem, Nicklaus Wierschem, Tyler Haile and his wife, Dorothy, Shyla Haile, Jayda Haile, Nikeysha Haile, Brandon Seamons, and Audrie Seamons, and great-great-grandchildren Trevin Palmer, Landon Palmer, Ethan Wingerter, Thomas Wingerter and one due this year. She is also survived by her siblings, Johanna Vis of Minnesota, Cornelius Veldhuizen of Minnesota and John Veldhuizen, Jr. of California.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred Hastings, her daughter, Viola "Oley" Wierschem, and three of her siblings.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the kind, loving care that was given so freely to our grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother by Vicki, and Shellie with All About Caring.
