Barbara Crane

Barbara Ann Crane, 76, of Mountain Home, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, May 18, 2011.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 25, from 4 p.m. until the 6 p.m. rosary. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, all at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Barbara was born on Aug. 4, 1934, in New York City, N.Y., to Robert and Lillian (Beattie) Peterson. She began her education in New York and graduated from Ursuline Academy Galveston, Texas, in 1952.

This beautiful young woman was working at the Galvez Hotel in the auditor's department when she met a handsome bellman, Larry Crane, who became the love of her life. A few months later, on July 11, 1954, they were married and began to build a family. Within five years they celebrated three additions, Debora Ann, Elizabeth Rose, and Larry Ray, Jr.

Barbara worked at Moody National Bank and the American Red Cross in Galveston. After their move to Idaho, she was employed by Idaho State Bank in Glenns Ferry and the King Hill Irrigation District. In 1986, she went to work for Elmore Medical Center in the personnel department until her retirement in 1999.

Before and after retirement, Larry and Barbara enjoyed an active lifestyle, hunting, fishing and camping. They could often be found at Little Camas, Trails Reservoir or in Riggins with pole in hand.

Barbara enjoyed and was a member of Our Lady of Limerick Catholic Church in Glenns Ferry and Beta Sigma Phi PEO sorority chapter Laureate Sigma. In her later years, Barbara joined her bridge club, where she enjoyed a healthy competition with her many dear friends.

Barbara's greatest joy came from her grandchildren. Most everyone she met knew she was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren!

She enjoyed singing lullabies to them when they were little, cheering them on when they were in sports, beaming with pride during graduation, and sharing the joy when they married, with hugs and kisses at each and every chance.

It's no wonder she was surrounded on her last day by her devoted husband of 57 years, her three children, their spouses and eight of her grandchildren by her side.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Larry, of Mountain Home, her daughters, Debora and her husband, Ed Montrose, of Mountain Home, Elizabeth and her husband, Robin Beck, of Nampa, and her son, Larry, Jr., and his wife, Juanita Crane, of Caldwell, her brother, Robert, Jr. and his wife, Michele Peterson, of Cabin John, Md., grandchildren Jennifer Montrose, Jessica Macmillan, Jacqueline Black, Cassandra Curtis, Jeffrey Arellano, Melissa Pletcher, Stephanie Lund, Nathan, Charlotte, Chantell, Jamie Crane, great-grandchildren Jordan, Riley, Jessie, Jacelynn, Justice (Montrose), Madison, Mossimo (Macmillan), Gus, Ira, Hays (Black), Daysen, Lilyann (Curtis), Colton Crawford(Arellano), Ainsley, Ashton, Kyler, Logan, Janzen, Ethan, Dale and James (Crane), and two more due this year, and great-great grandchildren Trinity Kay and Jaydin Alexander (Fischer), and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Michael Peterson of Cabin John, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Elmore Medical Center Foundation, 895 N. 6th East St., Mountain Home, ID 83647.
