Lady Tigers post victories over Nampa, Sun Valley

After returning from spring break, Mountain Home Tiger tennis hit the road to play the Nampa Bulldogs Thursday and then came home to host The Community School of Sun Valley on Friday at the airbase courts.

The Mountain Home girls' team came away with two wins while the Tiger boys' team lost both matches.

Lady Tigers 4, Lady Bulldogs 3

Nampa 6, Tigers 1

The Lady Tigers came through with a 4-3 win at Nampa. In girls singles, Brittany Ryan won the #2 girls singles match 6-4, 6-2, and Stephanie Farnsworth won the #3 match by default. Carolyn Bailey lost the #1 singles match 2-6, 0-6.

In girls' doubles, Tessa Pachner and Emma Wenger won the #1 match 6-4, 7-5, while in the #2 match, Rebecca Young and Brytany Minder lost 0-6, 1-6.

In mixed doubles, Jared Mott and Natalie Bush won the #1 match 6-4, 6-1, and Chris Hall and Kali Ireland lost the #2 match 2-6, 3-6.

In boys' singles, Drew Borgholthaus lost the #1 singles match 2-6, 1-6, Daniel Courtright lost the #2 match 0-6, 1-6, and Timothy Austin dropped the #3 match 1-6, 1-6.

In boys' doubles, Jalen Gibbons and Blake Pachner lost the #1 match 1-6, 2-6, and Ben Cumber and Richard Goldsberry dropped the #2 match 3-6, 1-6.

"Overall, the kids did well," said Mountain Home Tiger tennis coach Tamzy House. "The girls pulled out a tough win and the boys are increasing the number of games they are winning. You can tell the players are getting more confident and match-tough."

The Tiger tennis team hosted The Community School of Sun Valley on the courts at Mountain Home Air Force Base last Friday and the girls again came away with a win while the boys lost a close one to the Cutthroats.

In girls' singles, Mountain Home swept the matches. Carolyn Bailey won the #1 match 6-4, 6-4, Brittany Ryan won the #2 match 6-4, 6-4, and Sophia Stoltmann battled through a third-set match tie-break to win 6-4, 3-6 and 7-6 with a 13-11 tie breaker.

In girls' doubles, Tessa Pachner and Emma Wenger continued their winning ways in the #1 match, winning 6-3, 6-0. Ann Martin and Leah Riley split sets before losing a third set tie-break 6-3, 2-6 and 6-7 with a 4-10 tie breaker.

In mixed doubles, Jared Mott and Natalie Bush won the #1 match 6-2, 6-1, while Jeremy Gillies and Allie Draper dropped the #2 match 1-6, 4-6.

In boys' singles, The Community School dominated, as Justin Rogow lost the #1 and Daniel Courtright lost the #2 match, both by 0-6, 0-6 scores. Wilson Ong lost the #3 match 1-6, 0-6.

Mountain Home swept the boys' doubles matches, with Jalen Gibbons and Blake Pachner winning the #1 match 6-1, 6-2, while Eric Ward and Jacob Hanson won the #2 match 7-6 (TB 8-6), 6-4.

"The overall dual match was a close one for both the boys and girls," said Coach House. "Two years ago they wiped us off the court, but this year, the Tigers said, 'Not this time'!"

The Tigers had a conference match scheduled this Monday, April 11, at Kuna, and are home against Columbia on Thursday at the airbase courts.

"The Columbia match starts the second half of the conference season where the number one positions will begin playing towards district seeding positions," said Coach House.
