County ignored concerns

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

Dear editor:

On March 9, 2011, Planning and Zoning approved the Mayfield Townsite.

The Mayfield Townsite will bring about 37,000 new residents to Mayfield. Where are these new residents going to get water?

Planning and Zoning approved the Mayfield Townsite after hearing the residents of Mayfield talk about the streams drying up and the water table dropping. Did they not hear the fear in the voices of the Mayfield residents?

Why did Planning and Zoning not use their common sense? Mayfield is in the desert. Water is scarce in the desert. You do not need a high school diploma or a college degree to figure that out.

In the paper on March 16, 2011, the chairperson of Planning and Zoning stated that this is not our battle and remains the responsibility of outside agencies.

This statement is 100 percent wrong. This became Planning and Zoning's battle when they approved the Mayfield Townsite. And sticking their heads in the sand won't make it any less so or any different.

Planning and Zoning will always be responsible for any decisions that they make.
