Lewis Peczeli, a student at Richard McKenna Charter High School, positions soldiers on a scale model of the Alamo during a class project Friday morning. Students studying the western expansion of the United States built the replica as part of their in-depth look at the pivotal battle during the Texas Revolution of 1836. Over the past three weeks, the students in Gig Grubb's class invested more than 200 hours building the replica, which included carving scale versions of the mission and chapel at the Alamo out of Styrofoam and individually painting each of the dozens of figures used in the scene. This year marks the 175th anniversary of the 13-day siege located in what is now San Antonio. Photo by Brian S. Orban
