County P&Z gives OK to Mayfield Townsite

Despite their own reservations and some public opposition, Elmore County's planning and zoning commission has recommended plans to build a large-scale community on the county's western border.

In a 90-minute special hearing March 9, the commission concluded the Mayfield Townsite "appears to meet the standards" required under county ordinance, said Patti Osborn, who chairs the eight-person commission.

Spanning approximately 5,000 acres, the Mayfield Townsite would add another 15,000 dwelling units and nearly 37,500 more people to the county over the course of its proposed 50-year development. That's roughly twice the size of Mountain Home and similar in size to Eagle and Meridian.

The townsite project is tied, in part, to another planned community known as Mayfield Springs. A smaller 761-acre project, it seeks to serve another 10,000 people in this same region.

If the new developments aren't in the WECRD, they will be even more appealing.

Let's recall the P&Z board. They evidently took a kickback or something. All the empty homes, low home prices, and lack of water and nobody I have talked to is for this (will of the people) and they give approval. Something smells and I believe it is the P&Z board.

Great call on the WECRD. I wonder if the ladies are scambling to figure out how to amend the tax district to include them.

  • Let's just watch and see the majority of the residence will come from Boise and not take away from the Mtn Home market.

The P&Z did a great job making sure this application meets the standards and rules set forth about 2 years ago. If you don't agree with what they decided maybe you should have had some input when the ordinances were drafted. It's not the P&Z's job to decide what's best for the county, their job is to be sure each application meets the standards set forth in the ordinances which are approved by the Elmore County Commissioners. If you are going to criticize someone you should know who to criticize for what.

If it meets the standards they had to approve it, or else, look at Boise counties recent issues...

  • Courtney/desertcowgirl:

You would not know a good thing if it bit you square on your posterior! You would sell off anything to the highest bidder just as you did when you sat on P & Z. Pull your head out already. Your credibility is shot and has been since the CAFO ordeals and your little tantrum during the AEHI Hearings (you and KC). How is your good bud Don from AEHI these days? How clean are your hands on that one...since that too was great for EC according to YOU.

I criticize everyone involved and I have attended meetings and I have voiced my concern both to the commissioners and the P&Z board. The problem is both groups DON'T LISTEN to the people of Elmore County. They will do what they want, not what is best for the homeowners and residents of Elmore County but what serves their interests. I'm glad we didn't get the Nuclear Plant but watch as everyone's home prices take another nose dive. If you already owe more on your house than it is worth now you better start looking for a second job because your house will soon own you.

  • Whole I think it's likely P&Z could have been bribed, it is equally likely that they had no recourse if all the requirements had been met. Also, it is equally likely that the Mountain Home elite wannabes (we use to refer to them as the shifty-50) also had a hand in the decision for the developer to move outside city limits. Maybe it was easier to grease the palms of a few on the P&Z, than it was the shifty-50? We report, you decide.

There goes another rubber tree plant! Sounds like the folks on the P&Z board just won the lottery.
