Candidacy windows open

Thursday, March 10, 2011

The window to file declarations of candidacy for a number of local government positions opened Monday.

Candidate petitions must be turned in at either the Elmore County Clerk's office or with the clerks of the individual taxing districts by 5 p.m. on March 18. The number of signatures on a petition may vary slightly, but are usually quite low. Check with the taxing district when taking out a petition.

Under a major rewrite of election law last year, the county is now responsible for supervising all elections, and many varying election dates have been consolidated into only a few times a year when voters will have to go to the polls.
