It's the area growth that will double

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Dear editor:

I appreciate your article on the recent Mayfield Townsite Planned Community. I notice a couple of small discrepancies in the reporting of my statements.

You said that I suggested a growth rate of 3 percent and that might double in 20 years. I did not mean to imply that the annual growth rate might double from 3 percent to 6 percent.

Actually, at a growth rate of 3 percent annually, the regional population will double in 20 years. A value, compounded annually for 20 years at 3 percent, will result in a greater value about 1.81 times initial value. The actual quote was: "...We will need to build another Mountain Home, another Boise, another Nampa, Meridian, Star, Eagle, Kuna, Caldwell, Melba, Parma, Notus, Wilder, Marsing, Homedale, Grand View, Wilder, Greenleaf, Middleton and even another Murphy in the next 20 years."

That is in order to accommodate our historical growth rate.
