City police investigating string of vehicle vandalism cases

Friday, January 28, 2011

Officers with the Mountain Home Police Department launched an investigation Friday morning regarding an string of vandalism cases involving damaged vehicles across the city.

The police department received 25 calls involving broken vehicle windows that apparently happened overnight, said Police Sgt. Rick Viola, a department spokesman.

The crimes appear "completely random," Viola said. Areas the suspects struck include North 3rd East, East 15th North and North 6th East streets as well as Brookside Court and Catherine Way. Those affected by these crimes reported that nothing was taken from their vehicles, Viola said.

The police department urges people that see suspicious activity or have any information regarding these cases to immediately contact authorities. In addition to dialing 911, people may call the police department directly at 587-2101 during regular business hours.

In addition, residents can file a report online through the department's "Silent Witness" link at www.mhpd.net. People may choose to file anonymously if they prefer.

  • My car is one of the cars that has been hit by this horrible act of vandalism. This just happening last night though.

Was told that this had happened previously (I had no idea about the vandalism on Friday night) and am shocked at the amount of cars damaged.

Praying the people responsible are caught and no further damage is caused.

I for one would vote for not guilty for anyone that would just shoot these idiots that are bringing terror to Mountain Home. If caught they should be put up against a wall and shot...maybe it would be a deterent for a change. Instead they might get probation and their parole officer will find them a job.

  • We used to be shocked and appalled by petty vandalism i.e. soaped windows, TP trees. Now it has escalated to dangerous levels. Car 54, where are you?

  • I know what you mean bazookaman. This growth stuff is for the birds. The turkies can have it. I've decided to move.

  • Trouble2011, what an outstanding solution. Shucks, why go to court, we can have a special execution squad comprised of mental health escapees and let them have a blast.

  • Maybe if they used their garages to put their cars in, and not as a storage shed this wouldn't happen. I never leave my vehicles out of the garage.

  • No, it's your fault for negligently storing a multi thousand dollar piece of equipment when you most likely have a perfectly good storage area that has a door.

  • I have 2 SUVs, they fit nicely in my garage with room to spare. No it is not right to vandalize, but having grown up back east I do not have the western trusting feeling, I don't take chances.

  • I think that if we made car windows out of come sort of clear metal, and reinforced them with magnets, this kind of horrid vandalism wouldn't be an issue.

  • Actually I am from NYC and we dont have garages and I NEVER HAD MY CAR BROKEN INTO OR VANDALIZED! If someone is going to break a window atleast steal something and also, Idaho has some great gun laws so I would think twice about vandalizing in such a conservative state. I heard about the breakins and I would love for a little punk to break into my house so I can give him a welcome to remember.
