Letter to the Editor

Rose deserves our thanks

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

Dear editor:

I am writing this letter to thank Larry Rose for all the hard work he did as an Elmore County Commissioner.

Larry began his tenure as a commissioner in 1997, replacing John Shrum when John retired.

Larry tackled his new duties with enthusiasm and dedication, learning quickly what was expected of him in this new job.

By 1999, Larry and the clerk drafted his first budget. The annual budget is one of the main responsibilities that a county commissioner has, and in my opinion, the most important.

Larry Rose soon became an absolute expert on budgetary matters.

It is true that a budget is actually a plan or guideline, but it is also true that the funding has to be there to make it through the year. It is a very tough job and often what has to be done comes under real criticism. However, you must be fiscally conservative with the taxpayers' money.

The Elmore County Commissioners, as well as the commissioners in other counties, face so many challenges in today's world. The issues are so complex now and often technical.

Larry did an excellent job while he was on the board. Thank you, Larry. Enjoy some much-deserved time off.
