The Kuna Kavemen opened a 23-0 lead on their way to a 47-12 conference dual match win over the Mountain Home Tiger wrestling team last Wednesday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.

Picking up wins by decision for the Tigers were Nick Cruz (7-6) in the 135-pound weight class.

Other decision winners included Ryan Goldsby (4-2, OT) at 140, Erwin Ruiz (3-2, 2OT), and Ty McRae (2-1) at 285 pounds.

Losing by decisions were Austin Clark (135 pounds) and Austin Lucas (119). Losing by major decisions were Jaime Ibarra (103), Cory Pinque (130), and Justin Johnson (160).

Sergio Guadarrama, wrestling up a weight at 189 pounds, lost by technical fall (18-3). Aerial Groene (112) and Devonte McClain (125) both lost by pins. The Tigers forfeited at 171 pounds.

Tiger wrestling coach Lynn Knudson saw some good things from his young wrestling squad against the tough Kuna team.

"I knew that it would be tough for us to even win some matches. Kuna is good this year -- they're tough --and just that physical thing that we don't have yet matters a lot.

"We did have some neat things that happened. Nick Cruz stepped in and wrestled 135 pounds for us. He won that JV tournament at Canyon Ridge this last weekend.

"We're working on it little-by-little, but definitely, Kuna is tough, and I knew that coming in. Hats off to them, they're respectable."

The Tigers are at Middleton Thursday night for a conference dual, and go to the Parma Bracket Tournament at Parma High School Friday and Saturday.
