After nearly a year of debate that led to multiple revisions and compromises, efforts to build a new fellowship hall for the local Catholic community finally started this week.

To make way for the 14,000-square-foot building, contractors will soon begin demolishing a pair of 7,500-square-foot commercial buildings located at the corner of East Jackson and South 3rd East streets.

"The demolition represents a major milestone for a project which, at its heart, is all about building community," said Jeanette Reynolds, a church spokesperson.

You forgot to mention the bribe the church had to pay to the city council to approve the project!

Ooops..my bad, it was EXTORTION by the mayor and council so the church could build. Guess if they had been opening a bar they would have only been required one parking spot.

  • mhbouncer, do you have 100%, undeniable proof that there was a bribe involved? No, I do not attend the Catholic Church, I am just curious as to what your proof is that this bride happened.
