CLDC hears option to build community center in phases

Thursday, October 28, 2010

As the Community Leadership Development Committee (CLDC) begins work on trying to raise $6.5 million for a YMCA-run recreation center, which would include a swimming pool, it also is continuing to look at other possible options.

Last week, during a CLDC meeting, the group reviewed -- but took no immediate action -- on a suggestion by David Duro, vice president and chief operating officer of the YMCA, to construct the community center in phases, as money becomes available.

The CLDC is operating under the authority of the YMCA, which is under contract with the Western Elmore County Recreation District (WECRD) to explore the possibility of building a community center in Mountain Home, which the YMCA would then operate.

  • This is an interesting article and not really factual.

This article makes it seem like an email was sent to the entire CLDC in the last week or so. That is not the case.

The email that was sent out was between David Duro (YMCA), Mar Hiddleston (CLDC Co-chair) and Tom O'Neil (YMCA) and it was discussed with WECRD Board Member Jana B. (maybe others on the WECRD Board).

This email was sent behind the backs of those on the CLDC and completely undermined the entire CLDC process and those who have donated their time.

Mr. Duro and Mr. O'Neil should be ashamed of your back door tactics and hide the ball antics. Now, you try to make it seem like everyone was included in this. It took you nearly a month to include the rest of the members from the CLDC. This does not fall in line with the YMCA code.

At least be honest with the public. We have the WECRD Board that lies and hides things. We do not need to pay you folks to walk in their foot steps. I am very disappointed in the actions of the YMCA. This shows a lack of integrity.
