Potty-mouthed teens should be chastised; taught better

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Dear editor:

I realize that my concern is not "life-altering" and I honestly don't expect a change to occur because of this spout-off. However, over the past few weeks, I've attended two local football games and was (not pleasantly) surprised to hear our teenagers walking around, dropping the "F" bomb.

I'm not so naive that I don't think our children use potty language, though I do think that we should be explaining to them that there is a time and place NOT to use it.

On all three occasions that I heard the bad language, I chastised the teens and told them that young children were present, only to receive dirty looks from them. Young children are parrots and admire the older kids. Do we want a bunch of 5- and 6-year-olds walking around spouting off #$%^ you or you're a ^%$#@?

We, as adults, need to correct this behavior as we encounter it.
