City halts funds for youth center over lax books

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

The Mountain Home City Council halted funding for the local youth center, citing a lack of accountability involving its board of directors.

"There has to be a better accounting of the youth center," said Mayor Tom Rist as he addressed at the last council meeting representatives from the Parents and Youth United organization, which runs the downtown facility. "We can't give you a free pass. We can't keep giving you money until the city gets some answers."

"The funding will not be restored until the proper accounting and oversight procedures are in place," Councilman Geoff Schroeder said in a statement to the Mountain Home News. "Once those safeguards are in place, we will reconsider the issue and vote on it," he said.

  • What a crock, but it's ok whats been going on with the WECRD Dist.? At least the Youth Center is open for youth to attend, well until the roof caves in due to damage. Give the WECRD monies to the Youth Center for a new facility or the very least a new roof. This towns leadership never ceases to amaze me, what are we paying you folks for anyway?

  • I, for one, would like to see the same accounting for the "Precious" golf course.
