Tigers girls finish third at Gary Ward Invitational race

Mountain Home had some good efforts at the Gary Ward Invitational cross country race at Lake View Park in Nampa on Thursday.

The Mountain Home girls came in third, behind two of the best 5A schools in the state.

Vallivue won the girls' race with 51 points, one ahead of Eagle's 52. Mountain Home was third with 76. Emmett was a distant fourth with 136, followed by Middleton at 173, the Bishop Kelly JV with 184, Columbia at 191, Weiser 207, Nampa 211, Nampa Christian 216, Kuna 229 and Skyview 279.

Jordan Vivier led the Mountain Home girls with a seventh-place effort in a time of 20:27.88.

Arisha Karren was 10th, running a 20:44.75. Sarah Richins was 12th (20:54.95), Kacee Cameron 20th (21:15.74), Haley Schaefer 27th (21:52.00) and Shelby Henrick 30th (22:19.60).

In other race results, the Mountain Home boys finished seventh in the boys competition.

Eagle won the meet with 45 points, Kuna was second with 88, Vallivue was next with 113, followed by Caldwell at 133, Skyview 150, Nampa 216, Mountain Home 222, Middleton 223, Nampa Christian 237, Emmett 251, Bishop Kelly JV 257, Weiser 295 and Columbia 297.

Dylan John led the Tiger boys with a 26th-place finish in a time of 18:02.26. Mike Price was two places behind in a time of 18:04.27. Jake Schaefer was 52nd (18:58.05), Jon Dodge 53rd (18:58.56), Daniel Courtright 63rd (19:26.49), Alex Burke 68th (19:33.86) and Taylor Croft 73rd (19:41.27).

"The kids ran great," said Tiger cross country coach Doug Root of their efforts at the Gary Ward Invitational.

"The girls were third behind 5A teams Vallivue and Eagle, and the boys finished ahead of district rivals Columbia, Emmett and Middleton, and just behind Nampa."

Mountain Home hosts its annual Mountain Home Invitational cross country meet this Thursday at the Desert Canyon Golf Course.
