Fundraiser planned for skateboard park

Thursday, October 7, 2010

Bobbie Joe's Hangout in Stardust Plaza will host a fundraiser Friday for a new skateboard park in Mountain Home.

The Mountain Home Parks and Recreation Department has indicated its willingness to donate approximately 40,000 square feet of ground at Legacy Park "to build a park that can attract attention from the skate culture from neighboring cities," organizers said.

  • I don't know about that but don't we already have a skateboard park that probably doesn't get taken care of?

  • Of course, you would prefer the "Anybody know" and "I heard it somewhere" version of the facts to actually taking time to get the actual answer. Anybody heard of a telephone? Anybody know what one is?

  • Yep, most of us know all about phones but we are too busy working at the moment to pay the higher taxes, water, parking, etc. to deal with much else. Get the stick out of your butt there Quid.

  • The skate park we have now gets a lot of use but it needs to be bigger and I am all for doing something for the kids in this town.... You should watch skating boarding competitions on TV they are really exciting and the skaters are amazing !

I love Shawn White who also does snow boarding

  • This is a great idea. The WECRD should give money to this cause, definately!! Skateboarding is good exercise, and a positive activity for our youth, and a few young adults. I encourage my kids to skate or bike everywhere...

What about the little park on the corner of 12th and Canyon creek? I never see anyone using that, and it already has a big, big trench in it -- just an idea.

  • The little park at 12th and Canyon Creek is also a stormwater overflow pond. It's actually kind of funny when the water is up to the top of the playground equipment.

  • I'm 50+ years old and don't care about skating or skate boarding but I'm embarrassed to see the skate park we have for our youth. Ive seen the one in Meridian and Twin Falls. Those are skate parks. Ours is just a concrete patio. Build them a good park. Its better than watching them play vidio games.
