City revises parking laws

Thursday, October 7, 2010

A revised city ordinance will increase parking ticket fines and impose new restrictions on parking trailers and recreational vehicles on city streets when it takes effect Oct. 7.

Receiving final approval by the Mountain Home City Council during a public meeting Sept. 27, the new law increases parking tickets to $40 on average while allowing people to park trailers and RVs on city streets for no more than 72 hours.

Revisions to the ordinance follows nearly 18 months of discussions triggered by traffic safety concerns, a growing number of public complaints and a need to deter repeat parking violations, said Mountain Home Police Chief John Walter.

  • Well then explain to me why we have to pay registration....anything that is registered should be able to be parked where ever. I don't see people parking their car for only 72 hours on the road. Why don't we take care of all the cars in Mtn. Home that have flats and have been sitting in the same spot for years on end first. GIVE ME A FREAKIN' BREAK MTN. HOME!

  • They do take care of cars with flats that have been sitting in the same spot. I have had one of my vehicles tagged for tow before I knew I even had a flat tire. I think it is proper for big vehicles such as RV's to be put in storage or stored on your property.

  • It's about time the city does this, maybe that crappy rv that has been sitting on N. Hasket for years will be gone, the one that has been spray painted a few times.. Outdr_woman, just because you pay to register a vehicle doesn't give you the right to leave a vehicle that doesn't run and is a eyesore to the rest of the neighborhood, they're are not saying that your family vehicle/daily driver cannot be parked in the street

For those that haven't read the paper on this parking there is alot of changes that I think go into play today and now the fines are up there. To bad the print is so fine you can hardly read it but I tryed not sure what I need to be able to read it all, its in the legal section of the paper, going to be some in for a shock over the fines. I know alot of people won't like it but looks like the RV's trailers, boats will get off the streets. I really don't know why the print has to be so small in the legal section. Like the story says pick up a paper to read the whole story but even that is hard to do.

  • Yeaaa! I've been waiting for this ordinance for a long time. Mountain Home will be a lot more beautiful without the gigantic RV and trailers parked on the street.

  • But Billy-Joe-Bob can still park his out-of-state pickup on the street and not move it for 6 months. GIVE ME A BREAK is right. Thank outdr_woman at least someone else is seeing the same thing I've been seeing. I have a person like Billy-Joe-Bob next to me, I have reported him third separate times to the outstanding MHPD. Even invited the Chief to my house. His exact word, "There nothing we can do, the registration is still current, and it appears to be in operational condition." Hey retard - the vehicle and registered owner are from out-of-state, and it hasn't moved in six months. All I have to say is Billy-Joe-Bob must be on the MHPD payroll or he's in bed with them.
