City moves forward on water hike

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

A proposed water rate hike for residences and businesses in Mountain Home met with unanimous approval during a city council meeting Sept. 27.

The revised ordinance includes a 25 percent increase on monthly water usage bills, including a $4 increase to the basic rate that brings the minimum payment to $15.60 per customer.

During an earlier public meeting, the council opted to reduce a planned 40-cent increase in variable usage rates for each additional 1,000 gallons of water people use above the base rate. Pending the outcome of two additional readings of the ordinance and council votes, the council recommended increasing this rate by only 23 cents.

  • The only bright side is at least it is happening after the time of year to water your lawn. I imagine alot of people will not water thier lawns next summer and oh wont that look so pretty to visitors to Mtn. Home when they look at all the yellow lawns. Come on people give us a break everyhting else is going up but wages. I guess people wont have to mow the lawn very often so thats one way to look at it.

  • 25% is certainly an outragous increase. 5% would be more like what is within the inflation rates. I don't understand that. This will surely cause more dead and brown yards in town. I for one will not run my yard sprinklers near as much next summer.

  • i would like to see how much money is really needed to run the water system.. your enineers say they will need a 16 inch pipeling along north haskett from McMurtrey to W. 5th N, are there old 16 inch water lines existing on both ends of this new proposed line? will it go down the new pavement on north haskett tearing up the new pavement? also there is a sort of big difference in wanting a million gollion storage or two million gallon storage tanks... is both or either really needed.. If the city dosen't have the water for more homes don't allow them to build./

  • Asking for a rate hike? Is this after you (city) realized most of the city sprinklers were running in the middle of the afternoon (hottest part of the day)?
