Students from Mountain Home High School joined together to send a message of peace, tolerance and harmony to others around the world during an annual observance celebrated last week.

Hosted by the school's Artopia art club and representatives from other classrooms, students created roughly 500 hand-crafted decorations as part of the Pinwheels for Peace Project.

The event coincided with this year's International Day of Peace celebration Sept. 21.

The observance seeks to promote "the absence of violence, freedom of conflict or disagreement among people or groups of people," according to representatives with the national Pinwheels for Peace Project organization.
