Boise teen dies in interstate crash

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

A Boise teenager died in a single-vehicle crash east of the Boise Stage Stop on the interstate Tuesday evening.

Amanda Nickel, 18, was traveling eastbound on the interstate when she drove her 1993 Ford pickup into the median near milepost 77.

According to an initial report from the Idaho State Police, she overcorrected and caused the truck to cross the eastbound lanes. The vehicle then rolled, landing on its roof approximately 150 feet off the roadway.

Nickel was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by state police, who received assistance at the scene by Elmore County sheriff's deputies and emergency response crews.
