Two small fires broke out in Elmore County Thursday.

A small grass fire on U.S. 20 at milepost 127 between Glenn's Ferry Road and Louse Creek Road was quickly put out by BLM crews. The fire reduced visibility across the road until it was extinguished.

Meanwhile, Boise National Forest firefighters responded to a running fire about six miles south of Pine near the Pine Featherville Road Wednesday afternoon.

By evening the fire, named the Castle Rock Fire, had burned 80 acres.

Current threats are to a few dispersed campsites, some of them occupied. There have been no reports of any burned equipment or vehicles and campers are relocating.

Resources responding to the Castle Rock Fire include Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs), three helicopters, four engines, one hand crew and a dozer.

The fire is burning in sagebrush and grass. Firefighters hoped to control the fire Wednesday evening once the winds subsided. A backfire operation was conducted late Wednesday afternoon off the Castle Rock road and the Pine-Featherville road.
