Special magazine honors AFAD's 50th

Thursday, September 9, 2010

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Air Force Appreciation Day, the Mountain Home News has published a special free souvenir magazine of AFAD.

The magazine is available at the Mountain Home News office, 195 S. 3rd East St., at selected businesses throughout the community, and will be distributed at the Chamber of Commerce raffle booth in the park on Saturday.

"AFAD is one of the most unique events in all of Idaho," said Mountain Home News Publisher Coleen Swenson, "and is one of the many reasons Mountain Home has such a good reputation throughout the Air Force for its support of our military personnel.

"We wanted to produce this magazine to recognize the golden anniversary of AFAD, and we hope people will keep it as a souvenir of this very special day."

The full-color magazine looks at what it takes to put AFAD together and offers an extensive review of the history of the event. It represents more than two months of work by the staff of the Mountain Home News.

  • Is there a way to order this magazine? My first assignment in the Air Force was to Mountain Home and I have kept a fond memory of the town and base over the years. I would love to have a copy of this magazine, but I live in Sheridan Wyoming now and have not been able to return to Mountain Home since the early 80's
