The Mountain Home Tigers opened their boys soccer season last week with a tie with Bishop Kelly at home and a road win over Emmett.

Mountain Home 1, Bishop Kelly 1

Mountain Home hosted the Bishop Kelly Knights last Monday at Eastside Park and battled the Knights to a 1-1 tie.

Bishop Kelly broke open a scoreless game with a goal with about 15 minutes left in the game. Mountain Home tied it with a goal in the final two minutes, Dominic Torres scoring off an assist by Drew Borgholthaus.

For the game, goalkeeper Jack Richelieu had seven saves on goal.

"They're tough," said Tiger boys soccer coach Paul Walsh regarding rival Bishop Kelly. "We've been battling with those guys for a number of years."

For a first game, the coach remained pleased with his team's performance.

"They got the first goal and kind of caught us on our heels, but the guys fought back and got the equalizer late and held on," he said. "We've got to be pleased with that, especially for our first game."

Mountain Home 4, Emmett 0

Mountain Home picked up its first win last Wednesday at Emmett, beating the Huskies 4-0.

Dominic Torres scored two goals for Mountain Home, while Francisco Dominguez and Tyson Gibbons also knocked in goals.

Jack Richelieu and Tomas Guillen combined for the shutout, getting 12 saves on goals.

"The guys came out and really picked it up for our second game," said Coach Walsh. "I told the guys before the game one of the things we needed to work on was teamwork, and I thought they did a really good job with that.

"Emmett's tough. They beat Skyview (3-2 Monday), which really had me worried for a little while, but we figured out their off-side trap and once we did that, our defense and our keepers, they had a fantastic game. They played really, really well.

"Each of our keepers came up with some saves to save the defense and the defense was solid all day."

The Tigers took a 1-0-1 record into Monday's home game against Skyview. They host Columbia today, Sept. 8, after facing Middleton on Tuesday.
