Law enforcement to focus on seatbelt use

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

Idaho State Police and local law enforcement agencies are planning a crackdown in September on drivers who aren't buckled up.

More than three-quarters of Idaho motorists regularly wear seat belts while driving according to a survey conducted by Idaho's public health districts for Idaho Transportation Department's Office of Highway Operations and Safety.

In Elmore County, the survey showed 72.3 percent of all drivers were wearing seatbelts.

Southwest Idaho motor vehicle occupants buckled up the most with a 93.2 percent use rate, followed closely by those in north-central Idaho where the seat belt use rate was observed to be 87.4 percent. Motor vehicle occupants in southeast Idaho were observed wearing seatbelts only 62.6 percent of the time.
