School will begin on Aug. 17.
The change will allow the district to conclude the first semester just before the Christmas break begins on Dec. 22. In the past, students went on break, then returned for about two weeks to complete the semester. They will return on Jan. 5 this year to begin the second semester.

You should have thought to ask FactMissy-she knows everything. Then there's also the school district's website. But that would be too easy.
Public Knowledge? I review every piece of paperwork that comes home from the school. I never saw anything on this issue. I would think that with such a drastic change, the School Board would have made an extra effort to provide this information, and make sure the parents were informed. I do look and pay attention, as far as research goes, if you are unaware of the situation its hard to know to look for it. As for the quality of the education in this town, well its a joke, as witnessed by no child left behind act which we fail EVERY year. Unfortunatly the are no options in Mtn. Home to go to another school that would be paid for by the district. Thus no incentive to improve.
It has been public knowledge since January.... As a parent you need to look and research. Don't expect people to hold your hand for goodness sake.
It sure would have been nice to know about school starting early this year, in a timely manner. I mean a month and a half notice? Our family already had vacation plans, rental properties paid for, etc... My daughter for one will be missing the first week of school. Pull Your Head OUT School Board!!!
Heard a lot about the levy, but never asked our opinion concerning the Aug 17 school start date. Summer is too short here. Why not canx spring break, weather sucks that time of year anyway, shorten xmas break, and reduce in-service days. Let the kids have summer. What's wrong with you people.
