Panhandler arrested on assault charges

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

A 45-year-old man panhandling for money in Mountain Home faces charges of aggravated assault following an incident at the Pilot service station Monday afternoon.

Hubert E. Hubbard was with a female accomplice at the service station on the city's east side allegedly approaching people for money around noon that day, said Police Sgt. Rick Viola from the city police department.

After a maintenance worker told both people to leave, Hubbard allegedly went to his vehicle, brandished what appeared to be a silver revolver and began yelling at the employee, Viola said.

take this one step further and run them out of town. Im sick of seeing them sitting in front of Walmart and other places begging. I come from a bity where these people would make more in one day than most people make in a week. I refuse to give to them and I dont need them coming to me for my money, thats why its my money, I worked for it. I didnt sit on the side of the road and bother people for theirs.

  • It's a shame that people like Hubbard can put a sour taste in the mouth of good people who would be willing to help under other circumstances. There are many who do not have a choice but to put their hand out seeking help. However, there are those who are, in fact, just looking for a freebie. I am more inclined to pick up some type of juice and some fruit to give to those who are looking for handouts. I once saw a man with a sign that was probably the most honest, it read, "Why lie? I need a beer." One just needs to be wise with their giving and be quick not to judge.

Not all people begging are trying to rip people off. There are some truly in desperate need. Some people are not blessed enough to have jobs right now, I praise God for mine. Here's another thought...Proverbs 21:13 says "Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard."

Those truly in need dont sit on their arse and wait for help, they search it out and not by an extended grabbing, greedy hand. I have given money to many in need, b/c you can "see" they are in need. Begging is just that, begging, needing is something different entirely. I will always come to the aid of those "in need", I will not for beggers.... Beggers are dangerous as shown by this low lifes actions.
