WECRD awards $12,000 for area youth programs

Thursday, July 15, 2010

The Western Elmore County Recreation District's board of directors has awarded $12,000 to seven Mountain Home Sports organizations as part of its "Let's Play" grant program.

The grant program was formed by the WECRD in the spring as a way to help sports programs for youth in the greater Mountain Home area.

At a special meeting on April 8, the WECRD Board had approved allocating $12,000 to fund the program for 2010. A committee of local residents was then formed to oversee the selection process for awarding grant applicants.

  • Hmmmm. 12K in 10 years. Yep, worthy of front page news (NOT). Do not fracture an arm girls as you pat yourselves on the back. You could not bother to add this into the budget when we asked you to do so at the budget hearing and now you want it to SEEM as if you WANTED to do this when in front of a room full of people all three of you said "NO" to such funding. Nice try. Too much, too little, too late.

Yep really tough when you have to be shamed into doing something for the youth of the area. Look on their web site and it will tell you where they money is going and how much.

  • You could just say "good work" or "that's great" or "I'm glad that they are putting money into these programs". So it really is impossible for you to be positive at all. At what point will you commend versus criticize? So you don't want to hear that they are doing good things, should the MHN run their stories by you first.

How's that petition of yours going? Yes, you're too much and you do too little, too late.

Quid, I don't know how many times OM has said she did not start the petition over the WECRD, well here's a flash for you Vic Vega was the one that started and OM did most of the paper work at her cost to get it out and about. Vic Vega went out the first weekend with the petition door to door and then quit completely and gave up on all of it, so put the blame where it belongs on who started it and dropped the ball.

P.S. while I am at it I was in on the first meeting that started the petition and so was another person that comments on here from time to time, also a city council member showed up to tell us what we had to do and that was Council Member Geoff. take it for whats its worth and there has not be anyone beating down the door to remove their name from the petition.

  • Eagle:

You know that few in this community hold ELECTED officials feet to the fire on issues such as the WECRD. All of our elected officials are aware of the "events" of the WECRD. We have a PA who refuses to do anything about open meeting law violations, etc. We have an AG who will do nothing. Corder had some limited involvement but never followed up. Then there is the nearly worthless WECRD Board themselves. No checks and balances with this group. But it is, according to some on here, 100% my responsibility to "stop" this mess. Here is a news flash. I did not vote to have this taxing district. I never would have voted this board in had there been a choice (and I did NOT vote for Molly by Golly). See, had people done their research before they voted people would have seen that there was no plan. There was no budget. There was sole reliance on money that never came to be. Now, this is what we have. 10 years and LITTLE recreation with the 3 old hags who sit on all of the money and decide who, if anyone, gets what. In 10 years, the WECRD has given less than 15,000 back to this community and raised taxed without a vote.

Pardon me if I fail to see how well they (the WECRD Board) have done for the youth of this community. Taxation without representation is illegal and we have had 10 years of it. Spare me about how I am responsible for this mess. If someone would like to take over the petition, feel free.

  • From the Mouth Herself: "Here is a news flash. I did not vote to have this taxing district. I never would have voted this board in had there been a choice (and I did NOT vote for Molly by Golly). "

Your log intro states you have lived here 11 years. So you voted against forming the district? Or did you vote at all on the issue? And did you vote for Molly's opponent in the last election?

  • I worked for an airline when this thing was voted in and while I had a home here, I was in TX at the time and came home when I could. I did vote for Ms. Wishney. How nice of you to ask.
