Evelyn V. Uhl, our wonderful wife, mom and grandma, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010, at a Boise hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 5, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. Inurnment will follow at Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry.

Evelyn was born in Pretty Prairie, Kan., on April 26, 1914, to Otto and Bertha Unruh. Evelyn grew up in Pretty Prairie with brother Gene and sister Josephine and a large extended family with whom she was very close.

After high school, Evelyn worked a variety of jobs, including working at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan. After World War II, she moved to Topeka and worked for Kansas Power and Light where she met the love of her life, Ralph Uhl. They were married on Sept. 23, 1950, and spent nearly 60 years as best friends and soulmates.

Evelyn spent her life in devotion to her family and her faith. She loved to read, sew, cook, garden and watch the birds from her window.

She spent the last six months residing with her husband, Ralph, at Poplar Grove Assisted Living in Glenns Ferry. She enjoyed playing cards and socializing with all her friends. Her family wishes to thank all the kind and loving caregivers at Poplar Grove who made her last days so special.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Ralph, son Denis and his wife, Deb Uhl, of Hammett, grandson Chris and his wife, Carolyn Uhl, of Kuna, and grandson Scot Uhl of Boise.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
