Plummer seeks re-election

Thursday, April 29, 2010

Incumbent Elmore County Clerk Marsa Plummer will seek re-election to a second term this year.

She will face a challenge from one of her own staff members, Barbara Steele, in the May 25 primary election, which will probably decide who will be the next county clerk since no Democrats filed to challenge the winner in the fall election.

A lifelong resident of Idaho, she has lived in Elmore County for 25 years, working for 23 of those years for the county under former clerks Ramona Yrazabal, Dolores Robison and Gail Best, and including 17 years as a magistrate clerk.

  • Is she really not??? If not, please state why. I'd rather wait until I hear from an incumbent and challenger(s) vying for any seat before making a decision.

Typically the County Clerk certifies and files all vital statistics/records like birth, death, marriage, divorce records, etc. They also work with elections getting people in the system, and other election related work as well as county court records. They basically handle all of the county resident's official county related documentation. Large counties with millions of people the clerk's duties may be more limited because of the volume of work associated with simple vital statistics and documentation. Where a smaller county like Elmore the clerk could actually be responsible for quite a bit more. So the typical job description can vary from county to county based on state law and population. At least that's the way I understand it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as this person is better suited than that one...I don't give any credence to innuendo. There should be facts to back up such a position, unless it's an opinion. Then state it as such.

  • Maybe if she took some customer service classes and learned that customers are ALL people that come to you for a service in which you can assist them, then she might be the right person to continue doing the job. This includes service within the agency (internal customer service). I know many people that work with or around her and rarely hear any positive remarks about her internal customer service skills. It is sad when an employee from the court house mentions in amazement that she actually said hi to them, following "how could she not she was stuck in the elevator with me". In a position such as hers, a smile and greeting should come with ease. In public (at the market, gas station, coffee shop etc.), acknowledging a familiar face with a smile or a nod should come natural, but with her it rarely comes at all. I provided customer service to her for many years, not only was she often smug; she has never even offered a smile in passing outside of my place of employment. However I continued to treat her with kindness and provided her with quality customer service because I took pride in my job and my ability to serve. Maybe in an effort to maintain her position she may attempt without sincerity to reach out to citizens in an effort to win their vote. However, if the time comes that she is reappointed rest assure the act will diminish and all the (little people) will not be worthy of her time, a good morning, a thank you, a have a nice weekend, a smiles, a nod or any other gesture of acknowledgment. Holding a position such as hers should be done with gratitude to the people for believing in her and with the grace of someone who cares about all people around her, not in a manner of arrogance and disregard. I wish her the best and hope that one day she recognizes she is voted into her position because people support her. I would hope that because she does not know exactly who those people are she would treat everyone as if they helped her achieve her goal to maintain the position she currently holds.

  • In my opinion, I think she is great for the job! I have been in her office and have had her help me out with perfect customer skills. I do not want to go off of office drama as everyone has their own personalities and not everyone will get along. I WILL be voting to re-elect Marsa Plummer! As far as her not smiling to someone while she is pumping gas or shopping, we don't know what goes on in her personnel life and maybe she was having a bad day when she didn't crack a smile at you. I have seen her around I have talked with her and never has she been brash with me or any of my friends.

  • Plummer who? Ahhh...what?.....Ahhhh who?.....Ahhhh what? Marsa who? Doesn't ring a bell! Oh wait a minute....that Marsa Plummer!!!! That name keeps popping up in my head...oh wait a minute again....must be the signs I see every where in this little town called Mountain Home. It's just that...I see her name plastered everywhere. But do I really KNOW this person to make a decision if I should vote for her or not. Maybe I should ask retirementcanbefun for his insights. Retirementcanbe fun seems to know pretty much who to trust and not to trust in this little town called Mountain Home. Ummmm.....

  • Don't vote for her. She has no soul. Doesn't Retirementcanbefun only cruise through the blogs?
