Group creates panel to oversee WECRD rec grant fund

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Efforts to create a grant program to fund youth sports programs in western Elmore County moved another step forward following the creation of a committee responsible for overseeing the initiative.

During a 90-minute meeting April 14, representatives with the Let's Play Committee met for the first time to finalize the grant initiative and nominate its three-person board.

In a separate meeting April 7, the Western Elmore County Recreation District, or WECRD, approved the Let's Play initiative and channeled $12,000 of its current fiscal budget into the program to specifically benefit non-profit youth sports and recreation programs.

  • Funny how at the last budget hearing for the WRECD District they did not have a SINGLE line item for recreation. When asked by the public who attended to add one, ALL THREE board members voted NO! You can see it on YouTube.

Now, they have come up with this "great" plan and are demanding "accountability." If only this board (Mollie, Marsha and Jana) demanded of themselves what they demand of others. If only.

Good program but for all of the wrong reasons. It is nothing more than an attempt to buy "good" PR by 3 people who deserve nothing but contempt from those, who in theory, they serve. Too much, too little, too late. Nice try girls but your slip is showing.

So your saying they have nothing to show for all the money they have been given, save this "Lets Play" initiative. I find this very disturbing, where is the money going and what for? You would think they would want transparency to garner a better relationship with the public. I guess dirty deeds dont come cheap.
