Teens linked to weekend vandalism

A group of teens from outside the Mountain Home area remain the prime suspects in a case of vandalism at Richard Aguirre Park over the weekend.

According to Mountain Home Police Chief John Walter, the individuals spray painted gang-like graffiti on the fence surrounding the pool as well as other structures in the park central area.

It's not known if the teens responsible were established members of an actual gang in Caldwell or were simply a group of "wannabees" trying to replicate the type of graffiti they've seen in their neighborhoods, the police chief said.

  • What does it say when the law doesn't scare people anymore? One of the things that keep my butt in line as a kid was knowing that juvenile hall wasn't somewhere I wanted to end up because I KNEW I wouldn't have any freedom. Now and days it seems that there are alot of kids that just don't believe it's really that bad. I've heard kids say when they get in trouble "I'll get community service, it's a slap on the wrist." SERIOUSLY!!! Do we have a scared straight program where we can take our children to show them how things will be if they continue down the wrong path?

All I can say is when I saw the graffiti I was angry that someone could have such little respect for others...

  • maybe if the police weren't so diligent in writing parking tickets and towing cars they could so some "real" police work.

  • You all have to keep in mind that the city is growing, and with a growing city comes some of the bigger city problems. Its still going to happen no matter if law enforcement is on top of it or not. and as far as the judical system not having a spine, please...what we need is a prosecutor that actually keeps the charges on offeners instead of pleading them down or dropping them. countless times i have seen officers or deputies charge somesome with crimes that they actually deserve only to see them walk away from court with virtually no charges at all. I dont agree that the new jail is worthless, infact im in favor for it. Not only does it hold county inmates, but state and federal inmates as well which is bringing in money for the county. as for the harsher punishments i agree they need to be stiffer, but the jail cant do anything until the county commisioners are on board, and good luck with that one.

  • It was probably an improvement to the "privacy" fence.

  • If we are to lock these juveniles up, why aren't they the ones removing the paint that they so love to spray on. Let them learn that it isn't so much fun taking it off as it was putting it on. Get their parents out helping too since they are responsible for these kids, then maybe they will keep a closer eye on them too.

Oh I forgot.. they probably have rights huh!!!

  • My fear is as our city as well as surrounding cities grow and get the problems normally associated with larger metropolitan areas that it will be looked at by our police and city officials as "part" of growing. You can drive by legacy or any of our parks at 10 or 11 at night and there are kids there. The parks all close at night, so why are the police not doing anything about these kids who are also breaking curfew. My wife works for the city and I always hear about the new destruction. How about the kids drawing a ***** on every piece of playground equipment at the pool?? The cops have been made aware, but choose to turn the other cheek!
