At a public hearing March 31, Elmore County residents voiced their opposition regarding plans to revise the governing document outlining industrial development in the county, but the county P&Z commission approved the measure on a 3-2 vote following the testimony.

A majority of the nearly 30 people at last week's hearing in Mountain Home urged the county planning and zoning commission to avoid amending the comprehensive plan.

Revisions to the plan follow months of hearings and workshops aimed at identifying passages of the multi-chapter plan that conflicted with other sections of the document or put undue restrictions on future industrial growth in the county.

  • Good! Glad to see that P&Z did the right thing for the comprehensive plan. People seem to have lost sight on this issue, and it was not about a power plant, AEHI just brought this problem to light. Amending the plan, in and of its self doesn't mean just anyone can slap up any business. It doesn't limit industry to the Simco Rd area anymore.
