Master Gardener class registration underway

Friday, January 22, 2010

The University of Idaho, Elmore County Extension office has opened registration for its Master Gardener program.

Classes will start in early February and will continue through March. They will be held on some Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

Idaho Master Gardeners receive an extensive training program in horticulture and gardening. The program brings together aspiring horticulturalists with extension educators, specialists and other experts in a comprehensive curriculum including classroom training, field trips and practicum experience.

Graduates gain horticultural knowledge and increase their planning skills and leadership abilities.

Once participants have finished their classroom training, passed their exams and completed the required volunteer hours, they'll be certified as an Idaho Master Gardener for one year. Many Idaho Master Gardeners choose to extend their certification into future years through advanced training and commitment of additional volunteer hours.
